Thank you for joining us at the 13th Annual Gray's Reef Ocean Film Festival!
January 29-30, 2016, The Trustees and Lucas Theaters, Savannah, GA

Gray's Reef Ocean Film Festival 2016

Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary and Gray’s Reef National Marine Sanctuary Foundation presented the 13th annual Gray’s Reef Ocean Film Festival January 29-30, 2016 in historic downtown Savannah. The  event featured an exciting lineup as we used film to combine art, education, and enjoyment to inspire ocean stewardship and conservation in our community as well as interest in Gray’s Reef. The total attendance was 1,700 for the weekend, including many visitors from the surrounding area. The survey results and feedback have been overwhelmingly glowing!

Opening night was a near sell out as Gray’s Reef hosted its first-ever 3D Night with Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Secret Ocean 3D, followed by Humpback Whales 3D, directed by two-time Academy Award nominee Greg MacGillivray. Ed Lyman was featured in Humpback Whales 3D and spoke to the eager crowd after the screenings about rescuing whales from fishing gear. 820 attendees filled the theater for Friday's 3D evening, the highest ever single evening attendance for our event!

Over 300 students from local elementary schools were able to enjoy children’s ocean films on Friday and Saturday due to generous sponsors. Following that, for the first time, emerging filmmaker award winners were international, with gold and silver winning short films submitted by universities in Italy and Greece, respectively. The Guy Harvey and military appreciation sessions brought in new audiences to experience the films and learn about Gray’s Reef, and we are looking for ways to draw larger audiences to afternoon session. To wrap up the festival, we presented two incredible National Geographic films and GRNMS Superintendent Sarah Fangman presented a Lifetime Achievement award to Emmy-winning cinematographers Paul and Grace Atkins. Finally, the wrap party on stage closed out the festival in style with great food, enthusiasm, and fun!!
